Panoramic interpretation of the updated national standards in the field of mechanical testing from 2025 to 2026

2026-08-31 09:46:46

1. Update background: Why does "centralized version change" occur?

The mechanical testing machine is the "ruler" for material development and quality control, and the national standard is the scale of this "ruler".With the rapid development of new materials, high-end equipment, and semiconductor industries, some of the original standards are no longer able to cover new testing needs. To this end, the national standardization authority organized centralized revision and formulation of standards for complete testing machines and new material mechanical testing methods, showing an obvious feature of "centralized version change".

2. Update of standards for complete testing machines

The complete machine standard is the basic standard with the widest impact, with key changes focusing on accuracy levels and technical system upgrades.

Standard number

Standard name

Release/Implement

key changes

GB/T 3159-2026

Hydraulic universal testing machine

Released on 2026-02-27, implemented on 2026-09-01, replacing GB/T 3159-2008

The accuracy level only retains level 0.5/level 1, and level 2 is deleted; new requirements are added for extensometer systems (referring to JB/T 6146-2020) and displacement measurement systems (indicating error ≤ ±0.5%); new zero-point drift indicators for force measurement systems are added

GB/T 16826-2023

Electro-hydraulic servo universal testing machine

Released on 2023-11-27, implemented on 2024-06-01

Replaces the 2008 version and is suitable for testing the mechanical properties of metallic and non-metallic materials with a maximum test force not greater than 10MN.

GB/T 16491-2022

Electronic universal testing machine

Released on 2022-12-30, implemented on 2023-07-01

The accuracy level is divided into level 0.5/level 1, and the force value indication error of level 0.5 is ≤±0.5%.

JB/T 8612-2026

Electro-hydraulic servo dynamic and static universal testing machine (industry standard)

Released on 2026-06-01, implemented on 2026-12-01

Covers static and dynamic fatigue testing scenarios

In GB/T3159-2026, for example, the changes in its technical system can be summarized in four points: First, it replaces the old three-level system with two-level accuracy of "0.5 level/level 1" to raise the industry entry threshold; second, it incorporates extensometers and displacement measurement into systematic technical requirements to promote the testing machine from "single parameter"Numerical force value measurement has evolved to "multi-parameter comprehensive measurement"; the third is to clarify long-term stability indicators such as zero-point drift and discrimination threshold; the fourth is to upgrade the overall inspection rules and detection methods, requiring 0.5-level testing machines to be equipped with no less than 0.1-level standard force measuring instruments and traceable to national benchmarks.

3. Composite material testing standards: the most intensively published

Composite materials have been the "main battlefield" for standard updates in the past two years. The new standards focus on carbon fiber, laminates, ceramic matrix, composite steel plates, etc.:

  • GB/T45877-2025"Carbon Fiber Composite Materials - Planar Biaxial Tensile Test Method for Laminated Plate" (implemented on 2026-01-01): Introducing planar biaxial loading, which is closer to the actual service stress state of the material.

  • GB/T 41762.1-2025"Determination of properties in the thickness direction of fiber-reinforced plastic composite materials laminates - Part 1: Direct tension and compression tests" (adopted according to ISO 20975-1:2023, implemented on 2026-02-01): Solve the gap in the method for measuring the Z-direction (thickness direction) properties of laminates, suitable for 20-40mm laminates.

  • GB/T 6396-2026"Composite Steel Plate Mechanical and Process Performance Test Methods" (released on 2026-08-07): Updated test methods for tensile, shear, bending, bonding properties, etc.

  • GB/T 8808-2026"Peel Test Method for Soft Composite Plastic Materials" (implemented on 2026-12-01): Replaces the old version that has been in service for 38 years and standardizes the peel test between flexible packaging and drug coating films.

  • GB/T47907-2026Test method for room temperature interlaminar shear strength/shear modulus of continuous fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composites (double-notch compression method, V-shaped notch beam method, adopted ISO 20505).

  • In addition, standards such as the "Test Method for Basic Mechanical Properties of Fiber Reinforced Composite Materials" (revised GB/T 30022) and "Test Method for Tensile Strength of Fiber Composite Materials in Ultrahigh Temperature Oxidizing Environment" (currently soliciting comments) are in progress.

4. Semiconductor material testing standards: extending to device level, film level, and flexibility

The updated direction of semiconductor material mechanical testing standards is from "macroscopic testing of bulk materials" to "precision characterization of device level, thin film level, and flexible materials":

  • GB/T 42709.2-2026"Semiconductor Devices Microelectronic Mechanical Devices Part 2: Tensile Test Methods for Thin Film Materials" (adopted standard IEC 62047-2): Provides a unified method for tensile property testing of thin film materials.

  • GB/T 4937 series(Semiconductor Devices Mechanical and Climatic Test Methods): Mechanical impact, steady-state acceleration, and board-level drop volumes will be released at the end of 2025 and implemented on July 1, 2026, covering device mechanical reliability verification.

  • GB/T47239.8-2026"Semiconductor Devices - Flexible and Stretchable Semiconductor Devices Part 8": Testing of ductility, flexibility and stability of flexible devices such as flexible resistive memories.

  • Plans under preparation also include "Semiconductor Devices Microelectronic Mechanical Devices Part 8: Bending Test Methods for Measurement of Tensile Properties of Strip Films" and "Test Methods for Flat Panel Display Substrate Glass Part 4: Mechanical Properties", etc.

5. Impact on the industry and suggestions for response

The impact of centralized standard revision on the industry chain is reflected in three levels:

  1. Device dimensions: In-use equipment with low accuracy and lack of extensometer/displacement measurement configuration faces compliance risks, and newly purchased equipment must be clearly benchmarked against the latest standards;

  2. method dimension: New methods such as biaxial, thickness direction, and interlayer shearing of composite materials place higher requirements on the loading capacity of the testing machine, fixtures, and extensometer accuracy;

  3. management dimension: Test reports, work instructions, verification and calibration plans, and personnel capabilities all need to be updated simultaneously according to the new standards.

It is recommended that demand parties and laboratories: establish an item-by-item verification version of the standard ledger; conduct self-inspections on the accuracy level and configuration of the equipment in use; write "comply with the latest national standards" into the procurement technical requirements; adjust the verification and acceptance plan according to the new standards.

6. Service capabilities of Shandong Huayan Intelligent

As a professional testing machine R&D and manufacturing enterprise, Shandong Huayan Intelligent Equipment Group Co., Ltd. continues to track and deeply benchmark against the latest national standards such as GB/T 3159-2026, GB/T 16491-2022, GB/T 16826-2023, etc. It can provide equipment selection, customized development and standard compliance consulting services for mechanical property testing of various materials, helping customers transform "standard requirements" into "reliable data".
