Interpretation of the National Standard Series for Mechanical Properties Testing of Composite Materials (2025-2026)

2026-09-03 09:00:00

1. Industrial background of intensive release of standards

Composite materials are accelerating their penetration from aerospace to new energy vehicles, wind power blades, energy storage equipment, building reinforcement and other scenarios.The more complex the material system and the wider its application, the more important it is to "comparability" and "traceability" of performance data, and the unification of testing method standards has become an urgent need in the industry.

2. Interpretation of key new national standards

1. GB/T 45877-2025 Planar biaxial tensile test method for carbon fiber composite laminates

Released on June 30, 2025, and implemented on January 1, 2026.Planar biaxial loading is closer to the stress state of materials in real structures than uniaxial tension, and can provide a methodological basis for research on the strength and failure behavior of carbon fiber laminates under biaxial stress.

2. GB/T 41762.1-2025 Fiber-reinforced plastic composite materials - Determination of thickness direction properties of laminates - Part 1

Released on August 1, 2025, implemented on February 1, 2026, adopting ISO 20975-1:2023.This standard fills the gap in the method for measuring the properties of laminates in the thickness direction (Z direction). It is suitable for laminates with a thickness of 20-40mm, directional and non-directional fiber forms, continuous and discontinuous, and matrix types of thermosetting and thermoplastic. It specifies direct tension and compression test methods.

3. GB/T 6396-2026 Composite steel plates - Test methods for mechanical and process properties

Released on August 7, 2026.It stipulates the test methods for tensile, shear, bending, bonding properties of single-sided and double-sided composite steel plates, and provides a unified testing caliber for materials such as composite steel plates that use "welding/rolling composite processes".

4. GB/T 8808-2026 Peeling test method for soft composite plastic materials

It will be released on May 25, 2026 and implemented on December 1, 2026, replacing the old version that has been in service for 38 years.Standardize the interlayer peel strength test of flexible packaging, pharmaceutical packaging films, etc., which is directly related to quality control issues such as packaging leakage and delamination.

5. GB/T 47907-2026 Test method for interlaminar shear strength and shear modulus at room temperature of continuous fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composites

The double-notch compression method and the V-notch beam method are adopted, and the standard ISO 20505 is adopted to provide testing basis for the interlaminar performance of high-temperature structural materials such as silicon carbide fiber-reinforced ceramic matrix composites (such as SiC/SiC).

3. Evolution Trends of Testing Methods

  1. From single axis to multi-axis: Standards such as planar biaxial tension push the test closer to the true stress state;

  2. From in-plane to thickness direction: The Z-direction performance measurement of laminates complements the shortcomings of three-dimensional characterization;

  3. From routine to extreme: Testing standards for fiber composite materials in ultra-high temperature oxidizing environments and extreme working conditions are being formulated;

  4. From materials to components: The standard system covers everything from raw materials and laminates to composite steel plates and pultruded profiles.

4. Enterprise adaptation suggestions

  • Create standard mapping: Correspond between the material types involved in the enterprise and the current standard versions one by one;

  • Update detection capabilities: Biaxial, thickness direction, interlaminar shear and other methods put forward new requirements for the loading capacity of the testing machine, fixtures and extensometers;

  • Align supply chain caliber: Confirm the standards used for acceptance with upstream suppliers and downstream OEMs to avoid incomparable data;

  • Pay attention to the standards being compiled: Track the progress of GB/T 30022 revision, ultra-high temperature oxidation stretching and other standards, and plan ahead.

5. Shandong Huayan Intelligent Solutions

For the mechanical testing needs of composite materials, Shandong Huayan Intelligent Equipment Group Co., Ltd. can provide testing equipment, special fixtures and testing solutions that comply with the latest national standards, covering material systems such as carbon fiber, ceramic matrix, composite steel plates, etc., to help customers establish compliant and traceable testing capabilities.
